Shawn McNevin was born in Deep River, Ontario, moved to Ottawa in the mid 60’s. She graduated in Commercial Art from Algonquin College in 1971 and worked as a Graphic Designer until 1986. Pursuing her interest in Visual Arts, Shawn entered into full time studies at the Ottawa School of Art and graduated in 1989. During this time she was awarded the Macdonald Club Scholarship 1987-88 and 1988-89, and was co-winner of the Welby Award 1988-89. In 2007, she received the Ottawa School of Art Graduate Achievement Award.
Residing in Chelsea, QC since 1975, co-residing in Cow Head (Gros Morne National Park), NL and Chelsea, QC since 2000, Shawn continues to work in the visual arts as artist and teacher. She has taught at the Ottawa School of Art, Nepean Visual Arts, the City of Ottawa, privately and workshops in Neddies Harbour Inn, Norris Point NL. She paints full time and operates Studio 167 from May to October in Cow Head, NL and November to April in Chelsea, QC.
Shawn McNevin has participated in numerous exhibitions in the Ottawa ON/Outaouais QC Region and the Northern Peninsula NL. Her work has been acquired by the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton, Gatineau Memorial Hospital Centre, City of Ottawa, and many private (National & International) and corporate collectors.
